evening out of office, just the time for a quick visit to the local grocery store and then it was too late to prepare for a “serious” dinner. Luckily we still got some ham, eggs, parsley and cheese in our refrigerator. Just enough for a quick omelette.
Even better with a Spnish Rioja wine reserva 2006.
To be eaten with Calabria local bread: Burrino cheese.
It’s tipical local slow food product: provola cheese from Calabria with heart made of special butter…
1) put butter on bread and eat
2) eat the provola cheese around
Wake up today… with surprise. Just out of the owen pitta bread with fresh just-made ricotta cheese. With an italian espresso coffe, that’s the best.
just back from Santander, a quick stop before next travel to South Italy. I have to make a comment about the best discovery in Santander: the “taberna marinera El Machi”. If you plan to visit Santander, don’t miss it. Going often to restaurants, it happens to me rarely to eat a lot, to eat a lot of very good fish and then have no trouble at all with digestion. The cusine from El Machi is very tasty and at the same time very light. Our hotel’s owner suggest it to us and we went there 2 times in 4 days!
Service is perfect and friendly and the dishes are very good. It is right on the long Harbour of Santander, so also the view of the sea is nice.
The first evening (at midnight!) we eat rice with crab and it was fresh and very good. The second time we go for a paella with mix fish plus a mix of local cheeses for dessert. Perfect.
Dont’miss it if you can.
Tomorrow will be last day before some holyday.
Then it’s some days I’m trying to get rid of all the food which could become dead bodoes in the refrigerator. Here we are: the tomato sauce with mushroom and eggplant, swiss appenzeller cheese and Italian industrial tortellini.
Let’s invent an “empty fridge” recipe: cook the pasta, warm the sauce, mix them at the end having the cheese melti g down. Let’s see the result, probably something good in the winter.
Italy, near to the border with Switzerland. “Sant’Anna” agriturismo. That has been a very nice day. Your best friends, the “best men”, the young husband and plenty of good food… that’s a way to celebrate. Thank you Gianamario and Laura.
